5 out of 5 stars Great set for the price   February 8, 2010

Awesome beginners' set. You can't beat it for the price. I have used these bits to build some ornate shelving and a few others projects and they worked perfectly. Every cut I have made has been flawless. I have used some very poorly made bits and I would not put these in that category. I wonder if the nicks and burrs claimed by other reviewers are from feeding the wood too quickly, wrong router speed, not using featherboards, or too weak a router. I'll admit I have only used these in MDF, pine, and fir, but here is why I think this set it definitely worth the money:

Most people have their favorite 5 or 6 bits that they use all of the time, and then a few others that they use only occasionally. You get 50 high quality bits with this set--a really cheap way to find out what your favorite bits are and also get those occasional-use bits. Even if they don't last as long as commercial bits, most of these will still last much longer than most people will ever use them. After you've had the set for awhile and realize which are your favorite 5 or 6, spend a little more money on replacing only those few bits when they wear-out. It will save you a ton of money and you will still have a large collection of bits.

Also, the case is plenty sturdy. It's not a solid, hand-cuff to your wrist spy movie type briefcase, but it is plenty for holding your bits. The foam does a great job of holding everything in place. Most of the sets on this site come in cabinet type cases with acrylic doors that are not lined up and look like they could easily fall off the hinges. This handy case easily slides underneath my workbench, can be stowed behind the seat in my truck, carried out to a project in the yard, etc. It may not withstand the constant abuse of being hauled to the job-site every day, but how many people who work mostly on-site need to bring 50 bits everyday? I am sure this case will be used mostly either in home wood shops or carried to friend's house to help with a weekend project--it is plenty strong for those situations.

4 out of 5 stars Case is Kinda chincy, but bits work great so far   February 5, 2010

The case is a bit on the cheap side but holds the bits in an orderly fashion almost too well as I don't like fighting with a sharp router bit trying to pull it from the case. tHe bit selection is great for the price and cuts well.

Great selection for the price. I've used these bits to route both pine and red oak with no problems. I am by no means a professional, but have used some of the bits over a dozen times. They still cut as well as they did their first time. I would have liked a better selection/assortment, but for the price, this set can't be beat.

3 out of 5 stars What do you expect?   January 20, 2009

Yes, these are cheapo router bits. They will go dull in a heartbeat. But there are a bunch of them, and I get to have the "right" bit for very little money. So I use them regularly, and save up for some whiteside bits.

1 out of 5 stars quickly dulls   January 11, 2009

I have used only one of the bits so far and it dulled and became usless within 30 minutes of use on MDF. I expected more.
